Brown Bilum
Brown Bilum
The Meaning Behind the Bilum
Bilum weaving has been passed down to Papua New Guinean women from their mothers and grandmothers across generations. Bilums not only hold great cultural significance, but they also serve as an opportunity to support women's participation in the local economy.
The pattern of each bilum tells a unique story - reflecting the current life events of the weaver, their familial and cultural history, and the Province in which they are from.
Our Cause
Being crafted exclusively by Papua New Guinean women, bilums represent an opportunity to empower women economically. When purchased from FemiliPNG Australia, bilum sales also support services for survivors of family and sexual violence in Papua New Guinea.
